even the vacant lot has flowers

This blog is an extension of the ideas presented in my book (Haiku Notebook Second Edition, smashwords.com, 2010). It is intended to be a forum for discussing haiku and haibun. My hope as an educator is to stimulate interest in writing these forms. So, please feel free to post. [NOTE: click "comments" to read poems by other poets, as well as discussion]. A vacant lot, is an empty lot.
EMPTY lot
FULL of new flowers
A subliminal and contrary thought... "nothing, is empty." (?)

you make a good point m. one meaning of vacant
is empty. as with most words there are other meanings. for instance, a vacant lot is a lot with
no permanent buildings, or even a lot which once had
a building, but no is vacant. also, in the housing trade,
a vacant lot is a lot designated to have a building, but
without a building yet. in a sociolinguistic vein, "vacant lot" may mean a gathering place for young
people who, i dare say, never think of vacant as
"empty." i remember the expression this way when
i grew up. so, i guess i'm saying the literal
meaning of "vacant" as "empty" or without anything
may not apply.
thanks!

Yup... always looking for a smile, hence the word -contrary- to your intent. My intent(?)... playful!
