brighter than the sky the blue dragonfly

This blog is an extension of the ideas presented in my book (Haiku Notebook Second Edition, smashwords.com, 2010). It is intended to be a forum for discussing haiku and haibun. My hope as an educator is to stimulate interest in writing these forms. So, please feel free to post. [NOTE: click "comments" to read poems by other poets, as well as discussion]. Even though this poem only consists of one line, it is full of imagery and color. I really enjoyed this haiku because it seems to be performing many functions at once. It is employing the technique of contrast and comparison simultaneously because the dragonfly is being likened to the sky's radiance and blue hue. However, the dragonfly is unlike the sky because it's blue color is more vivid and radiant than that of the sky's and it is a creature capable of moving (being in the sky and on the ground) while the sky is stationary. Next, the sky's permanence makes it different from the insect because the sky does not die but the dragonfly does. Again, I found a lot of meaning in this one haiku and it makes me appreciate the beauty in all living things.
thank you very much for your comment, which i think is one of the longest, in-depth ones i have received on this blog. i truly appreciate it.
